Introduction
As part of my retro design look, I have decided to look into and create a Memphis design exemplified by an 80s aesthetic with bright colours and lots of shapes and lines. The bright design pattern is a lot of fun and directs attention to the product.
Memphis design is a funky style with a slightly modern look which I incorporated into the design above with the drop shadows and shading around the shapes. Normally the design is a flat, vectorized style but I wanted to create something that would stand out to a modern-day audience in case the 80s design put them off. Apart from the black squiggles in the background, no photos have been used within the design and it only consists of geometric shapes which act as the primary element of the trend.I have used bright, neon colours because I want to evoke strong nostalgic feelings of colours along with joy and happiness to get people engaged in the event.
The geometric shapes are free-flowing and don't follow any grid or pattern. I've included cubes, spheres, cylinders, doughnuts and pyramids. Normally, it would have 2D shapes but I wanted a modern twist to create that retro and futuristic contrast.
I have inputted thick, black squiggles in the background because it's one of the key facts when it comes to identifying Memphis design, and it's used to fill the design. They're black because it creates a contrast between all the colours and draws the viewer through the design.
The typography I have used is called, 'bubble' because I wanted it to mimic the fun nature of the design, but now that I'm looking I feel the more sharp typeface would suit the design better as most of the shapes have pointed edges.
